Every profitable affiliate will tell you that Affiliate Marketing can be a real life-changer, on condition that you practice it the right way, put in the work, and take it seriously without slacking off.
Whether you have already got an online business up and running or you’re still in the process of getting started as an affiliate marketer, I’d like to share 8 important lessons that can help get your biz rolling.
YES, affiliate marketing is extremely competitive, but if you’re bold enough to rise to the challenges of a very crowded marketplace and implement the following steps that have enabled me to make money, then you will also be successful.
So without further ado, let’s crack on…
#1: Promote Something Folks Actually Want
Many affiliate marketers (especially noobs) promote any old products and services, that they, themselves would purchase.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that because there’s a lot of awesome stuff out there worth promoting and selling for commissions.
But thoroughly do your research into the products and services that the “masses” actually “want” to buy within the market segment (aka niche) you have chosen.
The easiest way to start is to pop over to Amazon and take note of the best-sellers.
In addition, if you really wanna do some in-depth research, Jaaxy is a brilliant tool for finding popular stuff being searched for by potential buyers on Google.
#2: Hack All Marketing Channels
The challenge as a beginner is being open-minded when it comes to internet marketing because there are so many great free and paid methods to take advantage of for your biz.
You’ve got blogging, sales funnel creation, social media, email marketing, Pay Per Click, Search Engine Optimization, podcasting, and video production, etc.
Take every method for a spin to find out what works best for you and what sucks because it’s not a “one size fits all” at the end of the day.
#3: Tap Into Human Emotions
When you look at social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, etc, they provide products that are ingrained into human culture.
A number of people simply can’t live without social media because it’s highly addictive, which I guess is also a good thing for us affiliate marketers because it allows us to continually extend our reach.
So if you’re promoting a particular product, you should learn how to get in touch with people’s emotions. The best way to do it is by asking yourself “what problems will the product solve?“
#4: Stay Driven by Your Data
You wanna use the data you collect from your marketing efforts to continually drive your business forward.
When tweaking something, whether it be a blog post, a sales page, an email or an ad, you should ask yourself “what really informed the decision?“
If a campaign is converting well, it’s best to leave it be because when you’re tinkering with something that’s obviously already working, things can easily travel in the opposite direction very quickly.
#5: Use The Right Words
Some affiliates are obsessed with the design of their blogs and sales pages, etc.
However, as much as it’s important for creating great user-experiences for your audience, you should never really underestimate the true power of “words” when it comes to any form or written or video content because words help you to sell products.
So when you’re promoting products, always highlight the benefits and why people “need” to make purchases for solving their problems.
Never just lead with hyped up “sales pitches” because they will bring you no results.
The best approach is always to provide your audience with real “value”.
#6: K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Superhero)
Nobody likes it when you promote complex products or even create over complicated marketing campaigns.
Folks just want a simple life lol.
It may be funny, but it’s especially true in the online space because people are after simplicity when it comes to sales pages and transactions.
If people have to jump through hoops to get what they want from you, you’re gonna lose sales and affiliate commissions. It’s as simple as that.
So “KISS” your potential buyers. 😉
#7: Understand The Cause of Momentum
Noticing what causes strategy #1 to outperform strategy #2 is highly important for your success.
Unfortunately, I can’t give you the answer here, so you’re gonna have to go through the process of experimenting with various marketing techniques for finding the ones that cause the least and most momentum.
And then simply scale your online business accordingly.
Once you find the “golden nuggets”, you’ll certainly know about it!
#8: Focus on a “Super” Product
From experience, I have found that you can have the most perfectly high-converting marketing campaign in place, but if your product sucks or even if the product sales page is pretty sucky, you’re not gonna make a single dime in commissions.
So never apply affiliate growth hacking to promote a bad product, otherwise, you’re basically putting all of your time, effort, and money into trying to flog a dead horse.
If you think you’re promoting a crappy product or service, then try replacing it with a better alternative.
Sometimes, you have to go through a whole bunch of products until you find the ONE that converts into profit and makes you a “Super” Affiliate!
It can be frustrating and time-consuming, but going through the growing pains is totally worth it in the long run.
If your niche is “making money online”, there are two awesome affiliate programs that have pretty high conversion rates and can be extremely profitable for you.
Check em’ both out here and here.
The Bottom Line…
Making money as an affiliate marketer isn’t some “overnight” thing because there are numerous internet marketing elements that come into play for becoming profitable.
Education, tools, support, time, hustle, and monetary investments all play a key role in affiliate marketing success.
The 8 steps outlined in this article will certainly be challenging, but if you stick to the path and work your ass off, I can see you earning a full-time income.
Here’s to your success…
